The film being screened is the critically acclaimed Moonrise Kingdom, a 2012 coming-of-age film by celebrated US director Wes Anderson, written by him together with Roman Coppola.
The film was nominated for an Academy Award for best original screenplay in 2013 with the award, however, going to Quentin Tarantino for his acclaimed Django Unchained.
Set on an island off the coast of New England in the summer of 1965, the film tells the story of Sam (played by Jared Gilman) and Suzy (Kara Hayward), two 12-year-olds who fall in love, make a secret pact and run away together into the wilderness.
The film features a dream cast including Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Frances McDormand and Tilda Swinton.
“Anderson links the everyday and the extraordinary with virtuoso artistry,” wrote Rolling Stone’s Peter Travers, while the Los Angeles Times held that Anderson “casts a magical spell… finding a near perfect balance between the humanism and the surreal that imprints all of his work”.
