The Cantate Domino Choir of Żurrieq today celebrates its 60th anniversary with a thanksgiving Mass at St Catherine’s parish church, during which the choir’s hymn Bil-Ħlewwa bl-Imħabba li Tfur Ġewwa Qalbna will be sung. Mro Paul Portelli will conduct the choir, while M’Fiorella Fenech Vella will be the organist.
After Mass, the statue of St Catherine will be carried around the church at the start of celebrations marking the titular feast of St Catherine.
The choir, founded by Fr Michael D’Amato in August 1956, takes part in various festivities in Malta and Gozo and abroad.
Mro Portelli was appointed choir director following the death of Fr D’Amato on April 2, 2002. He was 76.
