Live jazz in Sliema on Fridays

Lovers of jazz can enjoy live sessions every Friday evening at Mason’s Café on the Sliema Promenade. Jazz singer Angie Vella Zarb and leading jazz pianist Joe Debono have in store a large repertoire of jazz standards and will perform swing, bossa nova, blues and ballad styles. Guest accompanists are also featured on occasion. Vella Zarb is a fresh new voice on the circuit, exploring a range of jazz styles with a focus on interpreting the feeling of the lyrics and melodies through improvisation. A self-taught singer, she derives influence from the pioneers of vocal jazz as well as woodwind musicians. She performs with gypsy jazz ensemble Swing Nuages, The Elata Quartet (contemporary), and in various other jazz combos. She recently also performed at the Malta Jazz Festival with the Fringe Youth Ensemble. • The jazz sessions at Mason’s Café start at 8.30pm and go on until 11.30pm. Entrance is free of charge.
