The Malta Amateur Dramatic Club (MADC) is staging its annual One-Act Play Festival from September 8 to 11 at its intimate playhouse in Santa Venera.
The club has been established since 1910 with the festival coming into existence in 1979. It is a very important feature of the club’s seasonal activities, under the watchful eye of its artistic director, currently Marylu Coppini.
The festival gives aspiring young actors and directors the opportunity to showcase their talents to a live audience in a competitive club atmosphere. Many of today’s leading thespians and directors made their stage debut in this festival, winning coveted awards.
The festival this year features four productions, with two performed every evening. This year’s plays are The Price to be Paid and Family 2.0 on stage on Thursday and Saturday, while 22 Minutes and He Said and She Said will be performed on Friday and Sunday.
The directors participating this year are Keith Joseph Barbara, Joe Depasquale, Benedek Forro and Gianni Grioli. Sunday night is also awards night for best director, best production, best actor and actress, and most promising actor and actress.
