Tessie Gauci writes... A month ago, we lost a precious member of the family, Rita, our sister, after a courageous battle. Rita was a nurse who worked in the chemo ward at oncology section. Unfortunately, she was diagnosed with terminal illness and so she knew from A to Z what she was going to go through. She was a very dedicated nurse and this can be vouched by many relatives who used to accompany their loved ones for chemo, which can be very daunting with all its side effects. Now I realise, with hindsight, how tough it is to work at Cherne Day Ward. When I used to accompany Rita for her chemo session, the nurses were really rushed off their feet. Nobody can thank them enough for the endless care of the most vulnerable patients. Apart from being a nurse, Rita was always there for all the family. All my brothers and myself rallied round her when anyone needed some advice with regard to our health. I must thank all the doctors and nurses who looked after her during her aggressive, unrelenting illness. A special mention goes to Josephine, who was Rita’s colleague at Cherne Ward and her best friend. During Rita’s illness, Josephine always helped her accordingly. Thank you very...
