An exhibition titled Face to Face: A Dialogue between Suruya and Grace Cassar is currently on at the China Cultural Centre in Valletta.
The centre invited the two artists, one Chinese Mongolian and the other Maltese, to engage in creative discourse, with a view to promoting artistic cross-cultural dialogue.
Suruya’s prime subjects are Mongolian women and the way she portrays them is reminiscent of photographic or cinematographic close-ups. She describes her artworks as aesthetic images which reflect her inner thoughts and convey her perceptions, ideals and feelings.
Cassar’s works, People of the World, is a collection of portraits representing different nations and ethnic groups, both male and female. Through this exhibition, Cassar tries to pass the message that all humans are of equal value to civilisation and have equal rights to share the resources of planet Earth.
■ The exhibition is being held at the China Cultural Centre in Valletta until Thursday. The centre is open from Monday to Friday, from 9am to 12.30pm and again from 2.30pm to 5pm.
