Fireworks Spectacular, the St Mary Fireworks Factory’s renowned show, is once again being held on the eve of the feast of the Assumption in Mqabba on Sunday.
This year’s event is characterised by a pyromusical display (fireworks synchronised to music) which includes various unique and innovative effects. The main attraction is the Tower of Light, a display fired from a 58-metre-high steel structure creating unique effects.
It was the St Mary Fireworks group that started this trend back in 2011 with a 30-metre-high tower. They then went on to win a national record in 2013 with a 38-metre structure. Apart from almost doubling the size of this steel structure, this year sees a record amount of over 10,000 ignitors to light up different types of fireworks in the display.
For the first time in Malta, two different firing systems will light up the show – PyroDigit and FireOne.
The display will also include the traditional Maltese single shot shells known as beraq pront and multi-break coloured shells known as murtali tal-kulur.
The fireworks show starts at 9.30pm with the suggested best viewing area being Santa Marija Convoy Street (Mqabba bypass).
