The scientific secrets behind love

Café Scientifique will explore several forms of love.

Café Scientifique’s fourth participation in a row in Evenings on Campus takes place tomorrow with an excursion into the question of love. There are several forms of love, different states of being and relationships. Each person has different perspectives and opinions. Scientists have also tried to find out how people are attracted to each other and what effect love has on us. Café Scientifique, an activity of the Malta Chamber of Scientists, will attempt to pare down love through the use of science, including neuroscience, genetics and chemistry. How does oxytocin affect the brain? Is it only chemicals which allow people to bond more to other human beings – or is there more? How does the socio-emotional aspect affect oxytocin levels in the brain? Is there a dark aspect of love we are not aware of? The event starts at 8pm at the Quadrangle (Atriju Vassalli) of the University of Malta’s Msida Campus. Sponsors include Sammy’s (by Culinary Forward Malta), Evenings on Campus, the University of Malta and the Koperattiva Kulturali Universitarja.
